Looking to plan a golf getaway in Minnesota? We don’t blame you. Whether you’re booking a casual golfing trip with friends, a one-on-one trip with your significant other, or that annual boys or girls golfing tournament you look forward to every year, we’re here to help you make your trip a success. You deserve it.
Grab your clubs and gear, find a friend or two, and let’s get to planning your next golf getaway.
Coordinate, Coordinate, Coordinate
Now’s the time to decide who’s going with you, but everyone has different schedules, jobs, family, and many other responsibilities. We’ve been there; it’s difficult to plan a trip with a group of people. The trick is to start as early as possible. Get to people and ask them about the trip before life and all its activities get in the way.
Start an email or text chain and start a conversation to get everyone talking about:
- When they can go on a trip
- Where they are willing to go
- What their budget looks like
- How long they can stay
- How much notice they need to take time off
- What else they want to do on the trip
Remember, start early and you’ll be able to accommodate more people.
Choose the Type of Place You Want to Stay
Where are you looking to stay? What kind of vibe are you going for in your accommodations? It’s not possible to stay at every golf course, but there are resort options in Minnesota that allow you to stay right where the course is—Sugar Lake Lodge is one of those.
Our resort is home to Sugarbrooke Golf Course, a 300-acre course designed by Minnesota native and former PGA pro, Joel Goldstrand. It’s an 18-hole course that is located just steps from many of our accommodations. Learn more about this par 71, 6,548-yard course.
What are the benefits of staying at a resort with a golf course? We’re glad you asked:
- Cost: you can save money with one of our golf packages, which includes a place to stay and endless golf. You’ll have your own kitchen to prepare your own meals, on your own schedule, and with limitless golf, you can make the trip what you want it to be. Live on your own schedule for a few days.
- Convenience: once you’re here, you’re here. You won’t need to leave the resort for anything (unless you need to stock on food). No driving around town, parking, or lugging your clubs everywhere. Just step outside your door and the course is right in your backyard.
- Accommodation options: we offer rooms that comfortably accommodate couples and any size golf group. You can choose from rooms at our lakefront lodge or cabins or stay right on the course in one of our golf villas.
- Not just golf: sure, it’s a golf weekend, but there’s a lot more to do at Sugar Lake Lodge. We have everything from lake activities to fishing, other sports, hiking, and biking. Or you could just golf all weekend, we won’t judge. It’s what you set out to do in the first place.
Stuff People Forget to Pack
We’ve seen a lot of golfers come through. While not many forget their clubs, a lot forget some of the little things that make your trip that much better. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of things you’ll want to remember (besides your golf gear):
- Sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses (for those hot and sunny days).
- Rain gear and outer layers (for those days on the course that aren’t quite so sunny).
- Extra balls, gloves, and socks.
- Cigars (if you’re into that sort of thing).
- Bug spray (it’s Minnesota, after all).
- Food (we have an incredible restaurant here on our resort, but some groups prefer to prepare their own meals!).
If you forget anything on your trip, we’re happy to accommodate. If we don’t have it at our lodge, we can point you to the closest place to get it.
