About Sugar Lake Lodge

While Sugar Lake Lodge has been our lifeblood for the past 25 years, our family resort business runs even deeper. We were raised in the hospitality industry and our Ruttger Family roots shine through in all we do. For many of us, it’s all we’ve ever known. When you stay with us, you’re treated like family. You’re not just a passing face; you’re a guest in our home, and that’s why so many of our guests have returned to us year after year.

We pride ourselves on being honest, humble, and true to what we offer. Simply put: we are not an ultra-exclusive, overly-curated, wildly modern location. Our property has history and character, and we prefer it that way.

Our resort is nestled in the Minnesota Northwoods, resting on the edge of Siseebakwet (Sugar) Lake—one of the clearest lakes in Minnesota. The Ojibwe people regarded this lake to have abundant healing properties – both spiritually and physically. It’s a place that’s uniquely special to us, and we’re always excited to welcome new faces to a place that holds such incredible memories for so many. Our heavily wooded surroundings provide a peaceful escape from the crowds, and the truly unprecedented crystal-clear waters of Sugar Lake are a one-of-a-kind site in Minnesota. We must remind ourselves year after year to never take this place for granted, and we’re proud to say we really don’t.

We’re a bit biased. After you stay with us, you’ll be too.

“We believe Sugar Lake Lodge encompasses a true north vibe in every sense – from experiences to interactions to location – we’re endlessly proud to provide something unique and enjoyable.

We can’t wait to see you.”
