What to Pack (and Not Pack) for Your Trip to Sugar Lake Lodge

Have a summer trip planned to Sugar Lake Lodge? We’re happy to have you! There’s a lot to do at our resort and the surrounding Minnesota Northwoods areas. But what should you bring? What should you wear? While we won’t be meticulously going through a complete checklist of clothes and other smaller items to bring, we are going to highlight a few things that people commonly ask us about before visiting our lodge. Hopefully, we’ll give you a few ideas of what you can bring to our resort.

Your Boat

Sugar Lake is the perfect place for boating and watersports. While we do have some watercrafts that you can rent and take out on the lake (including canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, pontoons, and a sailboat), you can also bring your own boat up with you! We have dock passes available. Once we give your boat a quick inspection (we’ll be looking for invasive aquatic species), you’ll be all set to go.

Feel free to also bring tubes, towables, wakeboards, water skis, and your other watersports equipment.

Fishing Gear

When you’re out on the lake, there’ll be plenty of time to cast a line and catch some fish (meet the fish of Sugar Lake)! You’re welcome to fish via boat or cast a line from one of our docks.

Your Golf Gear

Our 18-hole, par 71, 6,548-yard golf course is ready for you to tee off. Sugarbrooke Golf course was designed by Golf Course Architect and former PGA pro, Joel Goldstrand. You can bring all your golfing gear!

What shouldn’t you bring? Please leave your personal golf cart at home. We have carts that you can rent here!

Hiking and Biking Gear

Northern Minnesota is filled with hiking and biking trails, and the Grand Rapids area is no different. When Sugar Lake Lodge is your “base camp,” you gain access to hundreds of miles of trails that are suitable for all levels of hiking and mountain biking.

Don’t forget to bring your bikes, shoes, and any other gear you need to hit the trails. Where should you go? See the links below for our recommended locations.

The Little Things

There’s a lot to remember, so here’s a quick checklist of things people often forget to bring on your trip:

  • Bug repellent
  • Life jackets
  • Beach towels
  • Beach and water toys
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses or a sun hat
  • A good book!

What About Work Materials?

While we’d love for you to 100% disconnect from your career while here, we understand that this isn’t a complete possibility for everyone. If you bring your work phone, laptop, tablet, etc., know that we have high-speed Wi-Fi and other technological capabilities at our resort.

Get your work done, then enjoy your trip to Sugar Lake!

Forget something? Stop by our front desk and we’ll be happy to supply you with what you need. If we don’t have it, we’ll point you directly to a local store where it can be purchased!
