Minnesota Resort Dining at Sugar Lake Lodge

A peek behind the scenes at Sugar Lake Lodge reveals three generations of resort owner/operators. If you ask current Owner Fred Bobich what he learned from grandfather Alex Ruttger and uncle Jack Ruttger about pleasing guests, his answer would be the importance of serving quality food.

Our talented kitchen staff, led by Executive Chef Kim Fuller, never stop evaluating our menus to elevate recipes and enhance the dining experience. Our menus feature dishes with fresh and local ingredients. We believe that quality trumps quantity. Translated: you may find fewer items on our menu, but they are great items, and they will make you want to come back for more. We’re proud to offer one of the best Minnesota resort dining experiences.

The Lodge Dining Room

The Lodge Dining Room is located in the Main Lodge with beautiful lake views, and serves as a location for special events when reserved through our Conference & Events Planning Department. If work brings you to Sugar Lake, you can rest assured that you and your colleagues will enjoy menus specially designed to foster conversation and networking, while keeping energy levels high.

Continental Breakfast

…More Like the BEST FREE Breakfast Buffet EVER!

Served in the Lodge Dining Room every morning from 7am–10am.

Here’s what continental breakfast usually is: cold cereal, gas station-quality doughnuts, orange juice out of a machine, and maybe some toast if you get there early enough. Also that wretched peanut butter that comes in a small round plastic casing, and it literally tastes like cardboard.

Here’s our version of continental breakfast: fresh-cut fruit, steel-cut oatmeal with every topping possible (nuts, dried fruit, bananas, and syrup, which is a secret ingredient up here and in Canada, signature FRESH homemade caramel rolls, bacon & scrambled eggs, homemade waffles (sometimes pancakes), Fideldy’s Maple Syrup (local), Heidi’s signature egg bake muffins, the greatest coffee ever brewed on this earth, plus cereal, doughnuts, muffins, and yogurt. This is all available PLUS fancier items like omelettes made to order (those you have to pay for though, we have to draw the line somewhere).

Caramel Rolls for Days

Eleanor Otis, the matriarch of the Sugar Lake resort family, used to make caramel rolls herself for guests flying in on their float planes for a night. We took her recipe and tweaked it to be our own, but we do our best to honor her ability to drench rolls with an inappropriate amount of caramel.

Otis’s Outdoor Grill & Bar

Overlooking Sugar Lake and the 18th hole of Sugarbrooke Golf Course, Otis’s Grill & Bar offers a casual pub environment serving appetizer’s, a variety of hand-crafted burgers, a shore lunch walleye sandwich, and a variety of evening entrees. Indoor seating and outdoor deck dining is available, serving up great views of Sugar Lake. The bar features a great selection of Minnesota- and Wisconsin-brewed beer, a Napa Valley wine selection, specialty drinks, and a vast selection of scotches. Stop by for lunch or dinner.
